The New York Times “Morgue” Tour

The New York Times’s Clipping Archive, known colloquially as “the Morgue,” is the official collection of the newspaper’s historical clippings, photographic prints, microfilm records, periodicals library, and more, all housed in banker’s boxes, hundreds of filling cabinet drawers, and bookshelves alike. The Morgue’s collection dates as far back at 1870, when articles were clipped daily from not only the Times, but twenty-eight other publications, and stored according to the subject matter.
VSNY attendees have been offered a rare opportunity to see this archive—located three levels below ground—and guided by the Morgue’s archivist, Jeff Roth. Join us as we celebrate the 60th anniversary of Victorian Society in America by getting to visit original clippings covering the battles of Robert Moses and Jane Jacobs, as well as preservationist, Albert Bard, all pulled for the occasion.
