Emerging Scholars

The Victorian Society’s New York chapter invites university students and recent graduates to submit proposals by March 2 for its 2026 “Emerging Scholars” in-person evening event on May 5, 2026. The nonprofit VSNY (vicsocny.org), founded in 1966, supports scholarship about every aspect of 19th-century and early-20th-century culture, including architecture, literature, theater, fine and decorative art, immigration, economics, politics, education, gender roles, reform movements, music, fashion, and food. Topics for recent event winners have included globetrotting 19th-century cabinetmakers and early 1900s representations (and misrepresentations) of Indigenous Arizonans.

For VSNY’s May 5 event, 6 to 8 pm, St. Paul and St. Andrew church, 263 W. 86th St., three current students or recent grads will each give a 20-minute presentation and then field questions. Send 200-word proposals (preference given to American/New York topics) and CVs by March 2, 2026, to info@vicsocny.org.

Speakers will receive a free VSNY year membership ($40 value) and opportunities to network with enthusiastic, knowledgeable Victoriana-philes.
